Ascending and Descending

1960, Lithograph

In Ascending and Descending, an intricate building seems fairly standard–except for the never-ending staircase on top. The staircase appears to go both upwards and down, connecting at all angles in a realistically impossible way. Two lines of men walk the staircase; one side traveling up, the other traveling down, in an infinite circle.
